seated across a path

a melancholy toddler in a pram's eyes find me

playing peekaboo

while her parents are silently busy with their phones

the toddler starts cooing & playing with her shoe

so i start playing with my shoe

as she tentatively lifts up like a pink daisy in the absent sun

o happy child 

her mother still looking at her phone

spits out the three words she shares with her daughter

"stop!" & "sit down!"
