  On exceptions to rules: Having created a manifesto of sorts, tension is invariably created and the artistic impulse to rebel rises daily.  But limitations, as Basho and the Haiku Masters found, generate imaginative responses and raised tenors. I have on occasion hand written in my paper notebook some notes as touchstones for my improvisations, much like Miles Davis and other Jazz Masters did. There’s where jazz exists beyond country blues.
