'Punk' Sociology (Participant Observation)

 'Punk' Sociology (Participant Observation)

I’m chilling back at home, now
Needed a spliff
This is in no way definitive
I couldn’t see quite a lot even though I was near the front
Once things came to a stand off
I didn’t see much of ‘the enemy’
We were prevented from seeing one another
Just the guttural roars of “BOO!” from the blood lusters at their front
I saw the name of Jesus on a sign
Which made about as much sense as the lot of nonsense
Man I’d taken Eucharist in the morning prior
Of a divided people
Their upside down Aussie flags turned up the right way just after we were turned
back down Collins St from the corner of Elizabeth Street
& the capsicum spray – not too bad
Young blokes love a stoush
As do female inquisitors
The Safran thing strange
After his legendary decades
& he was ‘shot down’ as a ‘Zionist’ for taking on the Fascists with his dynamic holy wit
Very strange
I grew up with partition
Nothing intellectual about it
It’s IN you
Thought the political speeches were poor
Where were the poets to speak? xx
A lot of VERY naive people in strategy
Including the Police
A thoroughly dispiriting day
Not once did I hear the word Democracy or Democratic
& how has a national flag become such a divisive thing & a weapon for thugs against its own people
The white left have sold out the migrant & the indigenous so it can hold possess a ‘moral superiority’
Threw em under the bus
& never forget,
The poets & the intellectuals are always the first to go in a Revolution 🖕❤️💩😱🤮🤡😇🙈🤮

P.S.
As I said I went to an 8 o’clock Mass at the Anglican St Paul’s
Coz as a divorcé I can’t take sacrament at my own Catholic Church
Anyway, at about 9.30 I was near the State Library,
the streets were empty
& this guy asked me did I know where there was a public toilet?
He was from Sydney & had “walked 10 blocks” in search of one
McDonald’s has locked them
& of course half the city is a building site
I took him to Melb Central coz I also needed to go
There’s one near the food court
But no go, it was locked on a Sunday!
See this is more complicated than the media would like you to think
Don’t get me wrong I oppose Fascism
But so does everyone, what does she call it? False Flag Operations?
REALLY hard to find a dunny anywhere these days
Anyway, we saw a cleaner
(this guy REALLY needed to piss)
The cleaner said speaking very quickly with a strong accent where “another toilet” was
I  s-l-o-w-l-y  a-s-k-e-d  h-e-r  to  r-e-p-e-a-t  s-l-o-w-l-y
This time she was just decipherable
Something about green sign & she pointed
YES SHE HELPED US!!!!
We walked a bit & found it
RELIEF!!!

Afterwards the bloke & I talked
I think he was going to the ‘pro-Christian’ march
Which bizarrely was being co-opted by the shouty (I’m assuming paid) guys in balaclavas
Nobody really seemed to know what was going on
Except the powerbrokers, the dog whistlers
Anyway my new mate reached into his pocket
& grabbed his ‘Eternity’ cards
That he was to give out to people on his side of the march
We shook
Wished each other well
& parted
See I’d assumed he would march with ‘us’
But we loved one another
& we’re both good people
This is all only coming back to me next day
I nearly forgot him
plus the handful of non participants who were watching
the empty shops worried about smashed windows
I met a lovely woman in her 3 or 4
‘Love in a Time of Cholera’
I’m not sure if she & her mates were just shopping (impossible now)
Or just observing
Respectable looking kind hearted open minded people
The whole thing is way more complex
& perhaps
Will see the lessening of civil rights
If the Government sees ‘fit’
Perhaps that someone’s point of it? (mere conjecture)

P.P.S.

& of course I was only at one branch
of one march
There were others apparently
in different locations

P.P.P.S.

Oh yeah
& 3 ‘on the left’ brought old cuddly labradors
Why? Poor dogs
& I saw a 8 year girl on the shoulders of an adult
‘on the right’ in the heat of battle
Again why? Poor girl

P.P.P.P.S. (high, I wrote this as an afterimage on my retina last night for ‘social media’)

Abandoned

Good to remember
We’re all accidents of birth
Each of us as human as the other
& sacred as all
One doesn’t have to be cowed
By bullies
My question is for adults who espouse care about human rights:
Where were you?
We were boys & women
“Their guys are huge!” At one point I heard a woman shakily say
So I pushed myself to the front

Ppppppp..,s

Also, earlier in the morning I saw
A prisoner transport vehicle
Drive down Latrobe Street past the State Library
Was it prep to pick up people?
Or drop em off?
Again I no idea (mere conjecture)
Just what I saw

The Police did ok on the day
They’d be exhausted
As most everyone who attended

“I didn’t know!”

“I didn’t know!”   Don’t get me wrong In a Two Party preferred system  I have no choice but to give preferences to Labor The Coalition are scum But Jacinta Allen, Victorian Premier Claimed in a Truth Telling Commission that she never knew about massacres Of Indigenous people in the state She’d never looked up The history of her country The history of the state she leads She’s Premier! She leads a department that ‘manages Indigenous affairs’ We are currently in the process of negotiating a Treaty What did she think happened to all the Aboriginal people?! They went up to live up the Magic Faraway Tree? “No one told me!” No one ever told me either I fuckin researched It was really easy Took 10 minutes There’s this new thing called the Internet & you search stuff up Like History A subject no longer taught in many schools past year 7 I deduced a lot from observing the place & how allergic we are of looking at ourselves ...

‘The Garden of Love’

‘The Garden of Love’ (after William Blake)   Some young punk Tryin to be ‘hard’ Pussyole! with his mate Said “no flowers!” I was holding some wildflowers To put in my vase at the apartment I asked him “why not?” He said nothing That’s right keep walking bish! To bloodclot! I don’t walk around defensive So I’m not quick to attack I’d rather they think about it themselves ‘Without flowers there is no life’ He dreams Try that on for size ‘You say “no!” to flowers & you say “no!” to life’ Echoed on the wind 'You can’t eat money!' Unity & Devision He hears across the wires 'Not that way!... ... why have you forsaken us?' He feels the ancestors   & again I am reminded of Blake’s ‘The Garden of Love’*   Published & Copyright Malachi Doyle 2025.   * The Garden of Love By  William Blake I went to the Garden of Love, And saw what I never had seen: A Chapel was built in the midst, W...

Though it made me a poet

Though it made me a poet   This is a superior microwave to the last if  everything has to be a competition I guess it does! In the Kafkaesque vortex Where one is trying merely to ask a question Instead one is sold something I’m monastic or have acute anxiety Anxiety is pretty cute Like a decapitated bleeding brain Covered in snails turned carnivore By the wrack & ruin of a child’s innocence The fist in the sister’s face The knife in the wall Did I imagine the latter, dream it or see it? Who threw it? Must have been the bowie Still life goes on So I went to school the next morning & got my mouth taped up For being a chatterbox Such is the life of a privileged 5 year old It made me a poet     Published & Copyright Malachi Doyle 2025.
