for my childhood best friend

i've made mates with a marklark he looks at me funny one day early one i talked to him a lot he kept checkin me out i kept talking & he eyed me further then before i knew it he flew & pecked me in the left eye i got the message he's losing his habitat & all the flapjaw in the world is worth almost jackshit to him but we both know we love one another i went inside the cafe & improvised the song of the mudlark i later came out & threw him a little ham they're mainly carnivores & he's the only native bird around in a place of fancied pigeons & brown mynahs we're good now but now i wear my glasses 😘

country

after my late brother Tim had a course of radiation on his brain tumour the doc asked him if he'd suffered any negative symptoms he answered "well I still barrack for Collingwood, but I've developed a strange penchant for bad country music."

hipster language creep

no, everybody, a particular song doesn't "traumatise" we're not in Guantonimo Bay it can in rare individuals trigger a memory of a traumatic event but the death of a singer doesn't "traumatise" a group en mass that's called bittersweet "literally" doesn't mean figuratively English is your only language & you've done 16 years of schooling build up your vocabulary if u have been traumatised ur not gonna bandy it about regardless of whether ur a talker or not william burroughs was right: "language is a virus"

be a man

some jobs are dirty & hard & uglifying but someone's gotta do em why not u? some might call that being a loser i call that being a man & everything happens for a reason if u love life romanticism is not roses & necklaces only romaticism is cleaning up her vomit when she cannot or cutting her toenails nice from hospital gunk & u have the arrogance oh suave stranger to doubt another's capability to love? love is not vanity as the song goes this is nothing new love is humility as u get collected with the rubbish u put out this is nothing strange unremarked upon what has to be done it's all part of ur love for her worth every fuckin minute this poem is not only for the fellas but those who know the glory of the multidimensional workhorse the jack of all trades who are slaughtered in the wars on men all to protect the mystique of famous actors trust me any man or woman can scrub up ok it's in our DNA still as Tom Petty put it "even the losers get l...

the 'trigger warning' class say

they try to make poetry a chattering class thing when the greats would've all been barred. the 'trigger warning' class say "all welcome" on the sign till u bring in someone from the school o hard knocks then it's all smiles outwardly till next time alone they ultimatum you ex post grad: "we don't like the people ur bringing in here"

letter to afrika xx

i would imagine what people in the majority world might not realise about us westerners is how lonely we are. community has been ravaged by Capitalism. most people are just looking for friendship these days. Naarm/Melbourne could be great if the property developers pissed off to Mars. what i've learned is how many of the underclass are really fuckin cool intelligent progressive people. they're tight with first nations people. the aspirational class are the bigots. they only worship money. & wouldn't share a biscuit with a poor person. the local people are safe. our jails are growing by the day. & their regulations are growing crueler with every hastily written law. & all the kids are diagnosed with adhd for breathing xx kids have energy. & a lot if they're abused. let em be kids! inverst in the younger generation. kids learn differently & at different paces. teaching em something that could be interesting & relevent to them. don't treat em l...

This ol’ heart of mine

This ol’ heart of mine By Malachi Doyle   1. Swelling Shrink Dry out Drink Typing required the Right hand seeks A woman my girl Your tiger’s eyes eclipse All else Love tied To a spirit Once met Never forget Never forgot Maid marion & Judas Iscariot Dig I dig Like my potato ancestors Like Heaney These stumpy somewhat arthritic dogs I fog Is waking In clarity Dreams I dream clearer than see Always have How Feral me Damaging/damaged/& yet I have deep aboriginal friends Who talk & I listen Me o translator Humble servant with my tin rattling tourettes The shadow to my quest for just being-becoming Is there an I?
