“So busy!,
so busy!”
It looked
like progress was being made
But that
turned out to be a mirage
& those
2 steps forwards
Went 2 steps
backwards
No, the nation
was not ready to look at itself
Would it
ever be? asked a child
"Behave yourself," he was told
No, it preferred
to look at celebrities
& try
& research their wardrobes
“So busy!,
so busy!”
Was the
answer to every question
But as for
researching one’s homeland
It could not
find the time
What was the
cause of this lack of will?
It was
easier to listen to bedtime stories
Of once upon
a time & happily ever after
The nation
could not bear
To look
beyond Hollywood
“So busy!,
so busy!”
The nation
could not bear
To find its
ancestors & itself culpable
Of an ongoing genocide
of its Indigenous people
So it vilified
the victims
& cast
doubt on their characters
Anything but
face the Truth
It was
easier to remain blind
& wear virtual
reality glasses
& wine
tasting & home barista classes
“So busy!,
so busy!”
“So busy!,
so busy!”
