Masks 2
When you’re
lonely
& people
only know competition
It redoubles
the blues
Then the hangover
& the
recognition that
Despite all
the money spent
At the bar
No intimacy
was won
“What’s my
scene?”
Sang the
Hoodoo Gurus
I’ve been
with the Africans
I’ve been
with the poets
I’ve been
with the Irish
I’ve been
with the Australians
& I keep
getting stared down
By masks
Masks
affixed tightly
Man they
sleep with them on!
So terrified
of losing face
I feel like
the only one here naked
Why should I
walk in shame?
& so I’m
forced to stand alone
The only one
looking to collaborate
In this world
In this y’ a world
Of Competition
