“Watch for
sparks”
This hot
summer is worrying
Particularly
out here in the sticks
The planet’s
heating up
The Earth
screams “FIRE!”
100 degrees
again today
We live
close to our alerts
When a girl
my mother was told
To “watch
for sparks”
So mum, OCD
like me
Would spend
all those hot wind days
With eyes
peels
Imagining sparks
in the flickering of the light
Her days
filled with stress
As a city
kid it sounded far fetched
But now I’m
here in the country
It makes a
lot of sense
