On blue
You’ve tried to take blue
Away from us, ya bastards
It’s an African-American music
It’s Pablo Picasso over the suicide of his best mate
It’s my favourite colour in the sky
It’s colour of my eyes
It’s the colour of a kid’s balloon
It’s the song about the night of a Kentucky moon
It’s part of an Aboriginal woman’s gift
It’s mixed in with in astonishing variation with other colours
& it looks great there
So back off!
It’s a gift to all the world
The blue planet seen from space
The oceans that link us
It doesn’t ‘belong’ to anyone
Let alone a select few
It’s in us all
Even the blind & certainly the hungry xx
