Lygon Street Blues

Lygon Street Blues (2025CE)   I wept while praying last night Just between me & God But Jesus woke me this morning To the words of my dear friend Richard Encouraging me to speak of my pain Filthy as I am with the world of politics He said he hadn’t seen me so worked up in years He said that I appeared “ready to hit someone” He said he wasn’t even sure it wouldn’t be him Nazis coming into our city really fucked me off I’m cut Man nearly all my loved ones are ‘migrants’ including both my wives Even my Dad was It’s made me all ‘John Rambo’ Fight not flight But then I listen to Tex Perkins sing “You’re 39, you’re beautiful & you’re mine” & I think of Daniele My beautiful wife & my home Taken away from me But still held inside me Still my heart Though 2 & a third years have passed Oh my love! Clearly love wasn’t enough The tours of duty we did together As she spent years in hospitals & in the day I ...

On blue

On blue You’ve tried to take blue Away from us, ya bastards  It’s an African-American music It’s Pablo Picasso over the suicide of his best mate It’s my favourite colour in the sky It’s colour of my eyes It’s the colour of a kid’s balloon It’s the song about the night of a Kentucky moon It’s part of an Aboriginal woman’s gift It’s mixed in with in astonishing variation with other colours  & it looks great there So back off! It’s a gift to all the world The blue planet seen from space The oceans that link us It doesn’t ‘belong’ to anyone  Let alone a select few It’s in us all Even the blind & certainly the hungry xx Published & Copyright Malachi Doyle 2025.

Gallows Humour

Gallows humour Was chuckling to myself the other night watching young adults singing sad songs all night. Mate when I was 18 & playing Melbourne pubs, & I’d sing a ballad true, the ‘old cunts’ at the bar would always heckle “I wanna kill myself.” Or was it not a heckle? I’m asking myself now xx Published & Copyright Malachi Doyle 2025.

Ron Russell

When I told my next door neighbour Ron A returned war veteran from WWII and saint to me (His war experiences in ‘Malaya’, made that ‘poor’ working class boy from St Kilda an “atheist”) Of my plans to “go into Advertising”, He said “Oh the bull poop world?” (a rare ‘off colour’ term) Ron loved fishing & nature & Professor Julius Sumner Miller’s prompt “Why is it so?” I didn’t go into advertising 😛 Vale Ron Lest we forget Published & Copyright Malachi Doyle 2025.

Biographical angle

Resend: No culture ‘likes being proved wrong’ I don’t mind it. I know I suffer under illusions, & delusions. & the labour of my mind is in no small part a Western paradigmatic construct. I was as a pretty serviceable History, Geography, Economics teacher, despite the duress under which teachers here must perform their essential work. But a lot of Victorian schools don’t offer those subjects anymore past year 7. Only some schools teach Philosophy, let alone the Sociology I was trained in. Suspected of being too ‘political’, unlike Chemistry or Maths (See pharmaceuticals or weaponry). Anyway fuck this shit. I just don’t like minorities feeling intimidated in my home town. Particularly children xx Our work is incomplete… Published & Copyright Malachi Doyle 2025.

On ‘black’ & ‘white’

On ‘black’ & ‘white’ It’s a global it’s not a local issue. It’s a complicated mess that corporate billionaires funded tax free think tanks deliberately obfuscate to find ‘scapegoats’. Remember Australia was a solution: as a prison of ‘Great Britain’’s poor & desperate. Incontestably the abomination: the nation’s continuous genocidal land/resource grab. Not as simple as black & white. An earlier usage of the word ‘blacks’ domestically in England referred to poor white people. Under the Australia’s ‘white Australia policy’ (1901-1975), the concept of ‘black’ extended to anyone not of European appearance. Fun fact xx After 75, Australia adopted a policy of 'Multiculturalism' which has continued to today. The contributions of people from diverse cultural backgrounds to the nation since then has made the country a smarter & a far richer place. Personal anecdote: where it not for meeting culturally diverse people I would have killed myself by now, I reckon. But the ...

Buy a thirsty poet a drink, ya gobshite!

Buy a thirsty poet a drink, ya gobshite! Prices of alcohol  & in particular drinking out & the prices of cigarettes  In this country  Are outrageously high The only people who can Afford to drink out Are the fuhrers (German word for leaders) those who don’t pay for it They claim it on tax This kind of tax is what Economics calls a regressive tax Which means it most impacts the poor Comparative to their earnings Clear so far?! It is designed to keep people at home Isolated & desperate  & incapable of participating in the living culture of the nation Disguised as a ‘Health Initiative’ Drinking on ‘the street’ Is a ‘crime’ As the Aboriginals of St Kilda & Collingwood  & many other towns Across the country well know  The property developers saw to that It is a disgrace All designed so we live to a 100 In a mental state of severe depression  & impotent rage Doped up on synthetic pharmaceuticals  Which don’t work ...

On upside down Australian Flag

Something I saw the day of the recent August 31 ‘battle’ xx From AI 9/9/2025. What does an upside down Australian flag mean? AI Overview +5 “An upside-down Australian flag is not an official signal of distress according to the Australian government, as it is meant to be flown correctly at all times. However, for many countries, flying a flag upside down is  a traditional signal of national distress , and for some groups in Australia, flying the Australian red ensign upside down serves as a political protest or a signal of their opposition to the government.”   Published & Copyright Malachi Doyle 2025.
